The Government has announced its consultation on changes to Disability Living Allowance (DLA). It is proposed to replace DLA with a new benefit called Personal Independence Payment.
The Personal Independence Payment will be a non-means tested, extra costs benefit which aims to help disabled people live full and independent lives.
These proposals are the latest in an increasingly long line of deep changes which the UK government is proposing for disability benefits in the UK. Disability Living Allowance in particular is of vital importance to many people with arthritis and Arthritis Care does not wish to see any changes which may impact unfairly or disproportionately on them or their livelihoods. It is vital that the government understands the real impact of arthritis and how arthritis affects people, including its fluctuating nature, if the new assessment being proposed is to be genuinely accurate and fair.
Please take some time to complete the questionnaire to make your concerns known and help inform this new proposal to reform DLA.
