Contact volunteers lead Joint Potential events, and because they also have arthritis, people who come along know they'll understand. Our volunteers are an essential part of Joint Potential.
Our volunteers are all young adults with some form of arthritis; some have known about their arthritis for years, others are more recently diagnosed so know what a bombshell that can be. They have a variety of experiences, some are working while others are at college. One thing they all have in common is the belief that young adults with arthritis can help each other through Joint Potential weekends.
We'll give you training in how to lead group discussions, deliver presentations and give one-to-one support: you'll be talking about your experiences living with arthritis to other people with the same condition, so it's a lot easier than you'd think. You'll always be supported by other contact volunteers and Arthritis Care staff.
We also give child protection training - and all our volunteers have an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
Volunteers gain professional skills that they can use in other areas of their life; they also gain more confidence and a better understanding about how to live positively with arthritis, and the support from being part of a great team.
Training, travel and accommodation are all paid for by Arthritis Care. All it will cost you is your time - we'll expect you to help deliver 3 or 4 events a year, because the people coming along really need to hear from someone like you.
If you are between 17-25, have arthritis and would be interested in volunteering, email us at Info@JointPotential.org.uk to find out if there are any places available.
