I attended a course run by Arthritis Care in 2004. Afterwards I felt that I wanted to continue to be involved with Arthritis Care in a voluntary capacity. Having considered the options available I decided that becoming an information volunteer interested me the most.
I’d found the course that I’d attended to be very helpful, and having arthritis myself means that I appreciate the help that Arthritis Care offers. Therefore it seemed a natural choice to volunteer with Arthritis Care.
I get satisfaction from helping people with arthritis to understand and cope with their condition better. It may be that I just give them a leaflet, or I may talk to them about the other support that Arthritis Care offers. I find it especially rewarding when I help someone who’s newly diagnosed. Letting them know what support is available shows them that they are not alone.
I really enjoy meeting people and helping them to find out more about their arthritis. I also enjoy working with health professionals.
Volunteering with Arthritis Care is a really worthwhile thing to do. I’d recommend it to anyone.
